Green petroleum coke (GPC) is unprocessed raw coke straight from refinery delayed coking units, retaining high volatile matter and moisture. Calcined petroleum coke (CPC) is produced by heating green coke at 1200–1350℃ rotary kilns to remove volatiles, gaining higher fixed carbon, density and conductivity.

GPC features fixed carbon 86%-92% and volatile matter 8%-14%, while CPC holds fixed carbon above 98.2% with volatile under 0.5%. Real density of calcined coke is much higher, making it suitable for high-end carbon manufacturing.

Green coke mainly acts as raw feedstock for calcination, low-cost industrial fuel and smelting reducing agent. Calcined coke focuses on aluminum anode, lithium battery anode, graphite electrode and precision casting carburizer production.
